The Chief Administrative Officer is responsible for ensuring the Corporation's human and financial resources are effectively utilized and administers the day-to-day business affairs of all the departments of the Corporation in accordance with the policies and plans approved by the Council. The CAO also oversees and manages the processes involved in corporate planning and implementing important economic development initiatives.
General
All municipal operations and departments, as well as any standing or ad hoc committees, report through the position of the Chief Administrative Officer. The Police Service and Library Service report directly to their autonomous Boards.

The current staff complement for this office is two full-time individuals.

Administrative support services to the Mayor and Councillors are provided through this office.
Our City's Corporate Organization
In 2003, the CAO created a management team consisting of 5 Department Heads and Directors, who meet on a regular basis and conduct short and long-term planning and resource allocation, coordinate and discuss priorities with City Council.
The 5 municipal departments are:
- Administrative Services (including Treasury, Information Technology, Personnel)
- Clerk and Building Department (including Building, By-law Enforcement, Animal/Parking Control, Lottery Licensing)
- Projects, Tourism and Leisure (including Economic Development, Tourism, Community Services and Museum)
- Public Works (including Roads, Engineering, Water, Waste Water Treatment Facilities)
- Fire Department
Currently, the City's total compliment is approximately 85 full-time employees and another 40 part-time employees (including students and library services)
