The Community Service Department is a Leisure Service Department. The following is a list of facilities and programs that come under the responsibility of the Community Service Department.
Staffing
The Community Service Department has a total of 8 full time staff along with approximately 44 part time staff.
In the summer time we have additional seasonal staff with the operation of the 2 beaches plus the summer playground.

ELLIOT LAKE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Mission Statement: "The Elliot Lake Public Library exists to... foster freedom of access to information and knowledge in all forms by providing the best possible library service to all members of the community."
The Library is open for 47.5 hours per week:
Monday - Wednesday 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday and Friday 9:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
* Please note that the library doors are shut ten minutes before the Library is closed for the day. A book return is available in front of the Library during mall hours when the Library is closed. This box will be closed for statutory holidays due to space restrictions.
The Library's print collection: 46,000 volumes in English and French; in various formats for the visually challenged; and both fiction and non-fiction for all ages. The loan period for print material is three weeks. A Reference section includes encyclopedias, telephone directories for Ontario, dictionaries and periodicals.
Special collections include:
Local History: maps, newspaper clippings, photographs and pamphlets of Elliot Lake and the North Shore area
Mining activity records from the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines
Audio cassettes and videotapes are also available for borrowing.
Four public access sites to the Internet can be used for a minimal charge.
A photocopier is available to copy Library information or personal documents for a minimal charge.
Gallery space is offered to local artists. Display space for pamphlets, posters and public awareness presentations is available to non-profit groups.
The Library is wheel-chair accessible.
