POLICE SERVICES

Policing services in Elliot Lake are provided by the Elliot Lake detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The OPP detachment has a complement of 15 fulltime dedicated uniformed officers (and 3 officers with shared duties policing the highways and nearby North Shore region). Officers patrol the streets and are on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The detachment headquarters is located next to City Hall on Hillside Drive North and is open to the walk-in public and general inquiries between 8:15 am to 4:30 pm. All emergency calls are fielded by 911.

In addition to the regular police officers patrolling Elliot Lake, The City of Elliot Lake offers its residents the services of a dedicated Seniors Issues Officer. This position is established to address any special concerns and needs of the senior citizens in Elliot Lake and working on various community projects.

One of those projects is the network of volunteers who support the efforts of the OPP and conduct volunteer patrols of Elliot Lake streets to report any crime or emergencies to the police and fire. Citizens on Patrol (COPS) volunteers and the generally relaxed and friendly nature of Elliot Lakers are only two of countless reasons why Elliot Lake enjoys an extremely low crime rate.

FIRE SERVICES

The Elliot Lake Fire Service provides 24 hour service with a complement 34 firefighters. They have a fully equipped fire hall with an aerial pumper and a complement of rescue vehicles.

AMBULANCE SERVICES

Residents of the City of Elliot Lake are serviced with 24-hour 911 ambulance service provided by the Algoma District Services Administration Board. The board provides one on-site ambulance and crew 24 hours a day and an additional crew on weekdays from 8 to 4 pm for transfers to service the other outlying areas. For emergency transportation to other centres, a helicopter landing pad is located at the Elliot Lake airport.
