Highway 108 Sewer Line Extension

The City of Elliot lake has issued a tender to install 1,200 metres of sanitary sewer line along Highway 108 from the Mountain Road commercial area to the Esten residential subdivision (servicing 1,500 homes and over 2700 residents).  The new gravity line will replace the existing pumped sewage system that is near capacity and cannot be expanded to accommodate existing confirmed commercial growth and forecasted growth along the key transportation corridor and central commercial area.

The existing sewage system, 3 pump stations and a forcemain, will be decommissioned.

The new sewer main will have sewage capacity for all existing and future development in the service area. The receiving sewer system in the Esten Subdivision was designed with plenty of spare capacity to allow for future flows from the Mountain Road area.
Decommissioning of the existing pumped system will reduce maintenance and annual operating costs. This will vastly prolong the life of the municipal sanitary sewage distribution system and reduce the current strain on the system. The line will have a 40+ year lifespan.

Work on this project is expected to commence in late 2009 or early 2010.
