Pearson Road Watermain Extension

The City of Elliot Lake has commenced a project to improve and secure the water supply to the Esten subdivision (1,500 homes and over 2700 residents) and the Pearson Drive area.  K.J. Beamish Construction has been contracted to extend the existing water main along Pearson Drive by 1,000 metres to connect to the existing water main on Esten Drive North.  Because of damage caused during construction, most if not all of Pearson Drive will be resurfaced (spring / summer 2010).  The project will also supply water and sewer connections to a new industrial park area identified in the Official Plan that is immediately adjacent to Pearson Drive.

The project will improve the current water distribution system by adding a loop to the entire Esten subdivision which is currently serviced by only one main line.  Adding a loop to the water distribution system will improve the reliability and safety of drinking water for over 1,500 homes in the Esten residential subdivision.  Currently, a break in the water transmission main may result in a loss of drinking water supply for the entire subdivision.  A similar break in the transmission main in September 2008 took several days to repair and resulted in a boil water advisory that lasted weeks.

Construction on this project has started and is expected to continue through the start of winter and will be completed following spring thaw.
