Standing Committees

Under Section 23.0 of the Corporation of the City of Elliot Lake procedural Bylaw, committees may be appointed by Council from time to time to consider specific matters or to serve in an advisory capacity.  Accordingly, the City currently has five Standing Committees.  The committees along with their terms of reference and current members are listed below.

The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:

  • to report on matters referred to it by the Council;
  • to process matters referred by the Chief Administrative Officer;
  • to assist the municipal administration in the development of recommendations concerning Council policy;
  • to assist municipal administration, when requested, to develop administrative policies;
  • to assist the municipal administration to prepare long-range plans;
  • to assist the municipal administration in identifying, developing and prioritizing capital projects;
  • to work with the municipal administration to analyze and make recommendations concerning the levels of service.

 

Finance & Administration Standing Committee

The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:

  • to report on matters referred to it by the Council;
  • to process matters referred by the Chief Administrative Officer;
  • to process and make recommendations to Council relating to financial, Information & Technology, Personnel and Fire Services matters;
  • to assist the municipal administration in the development of recommendations concerning Council policy;
  • to assist municipal administration, when requested, to develop administrative policies;
  • to assist the municipal administration to prepare long-range plans;
  • to assist the municipal administration in identifying, developing and prioritizing capital projects;
  • to work with the municipal administration to analyze and make recommendations concerning the levels of service.

 

By-Laws & Planning Standing Committee

The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:

  • to report on matters referred to it by the Council;
  • to process matters referred by the Chief Administrative Officer;
  • to assist the municipal administration in the development of recommendations concerning Council policy;
  • to assist municipal administration, when requested, to develop administrative policies;
  • to assist the municipal administration to prepare long-range plans;
  • to assist the municipal administration in identifying, developing and prioritizing capital projects;
  • to work with the municipal administration to analyze and make recommendations concerning the levels of service.

 

Economic Development Standing Committee

The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:

  • to report on matters referred to it by the Council;
  • to process matters referred by the Chief Administrative Officer;
  • to seek out and review ideas and priority projects that will stimulate economic growth and renewal for Elliot Lake are area;
  • to acquire necessary resources, encourage and support priority projects in partnership with community stakeholders;
  • to conduct strategic economic development planning, and oversee the implementation of the City's strategic plan;
  • assist the municipal administration in the development of recommendations concerning Council policy;
  • to work with the municipal administration to analyze and make recommendations concerning the levels of service.

 

Parks & Recreation Standing Committee

  • The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:
  • to report on matters referred to it by the Council;
  • to process matters referred by the Chief Administrative Officer;
  • to assist the municipal administration in the development of recommendations concerning Council policy;
  • to assist municipal administration, when requested, to develop administrative policies;
  • to assist the municipal administration to prepare long-range plans;
  • to assist the municipal administration in identifying, developing and prioritizing capital projects;
  • to work with the municipal administration to analyze and make recommendations concerning the levels of service.
