Seniors' Issues Office

The Seniors' Issues Office blends social work and policing service specifically focusing on the seniors segment with the goal to facilitate and foster the development of independence and security of seniors in Elliot Lake.  The program's target area is for all seniors in Elliot Lake.  The service is proactive in nature and also provides support when needed.

The office was started to supply assistance for seniors who may be alone or isolated and do not venture out of their residences for a month or more. It consists of two major components:

  • Seniors' community development project which focuses on promoting the positive aspects of social support: familiarity, interdependency, a sense of belonging, and a sense of connectedness to the community; and
  • Senior's prevention/intervention project, aimed at seniors considered to be 'at risk'.

The Seniors' Issues Office is available for assistance to the entire seniors population of the community.  The office has direct relation to the O.P.P. through supervision, support services, referrals and complete assistance in necessary police matters.

Supportive partnerships have been developed with Elliot Lake Retirement Living by providing referrals and working cooperatively with the customer service co-ordinator and all staff.  The partnership works very well in that the Seniors Issues Office has access to all rental buildings and assistance of building superintendent to reach any seniors that may be at risk.
