The Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant were built in 1982 and are designed to service a population of 30 000. The plants currently run at one-third capacity servicing the population of Elliot Lake (12,000).  The City's source for drinking water is Elliot Lake.  Water drawn from the lake is treated by direct filtration and disinfected with chlorine.  The water treatment plant produces potable water that meets or exceeds Ministry of the Environment Standards.
