Lakeshore Properties

The boundaries of the City of Elliot Lake cover 800 square miles and include over 100 spring fed lakes, surrounded by wilderness Crown land.  Historically, cottage development was not allowed.  In the last several years, the province, in cooperation with the City of Elliot Lake, adopted a new philosophy to share our environment with others.  In June of 2001, a private member's bill known as the City of Elliot Lake Act received Royal Assent. T his special legislation enabled the City of Elliot Lake to acquire, market and sell Crown land for waterfront development.  The Elliot Lake Residential Development Commission was established to carry out the necessary work to bring the lots to market.

The vision of the Commission and the City is to make a significant contribution to the economic diversification of the City of Elliot Lake by providing the opportunity for families of all ages to enjoy residential, recreational living (cottage life).

This project will preserve the pristine natural environment while introducing cottage development on a sound, sustainable basis for the future, through deliberate planning and research.

The City of Elliot Lake is developing over 400 waterfront lots on 10 of the multitude of lakes that are within the city boundaries.  All of the lots being developed are "northern-sized", each offering shorelines from 150 feet to over 750 feet.  Waterfront lot sizes range from 1.25 acres to over 7 acres. Whether they are nestled in quiet bays, or secluded in old growth forests on undeveloped pristine lakes, this cottage environment is unrivalled, while having all of the city services just minutes away from your dock.

Committed to Preserving the Environment

The development process by which all of the waterfront lots will be brought to market has been predicated on state-of-the-art planning and environmental protections dedicated to preserving and enhancing the health of each lake and their respective ecosystems for generations to come.

Cottaging in Elliot Lake is rooted in the belief that the environment must be protected as a matter of priority, in order to protect the quality of life for all of its citizens well into the future.
