Waterfront Beaches
NOTICE
SPRUCE AND SPINE BEACH CLOSED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!

We have just received notification that the Algoma Health Unit's water quality testing has revealed high levels of E. Coli at both Spruce and Spine Beaches.  High E.Coli levels can be found where the water has been contaminated when there is a storm, built-up waste on the beach and streets runs off into the water, hot weather and or fecal contamination.
Warning signs are being posted at both Waterfronts.
Retesting will be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (July 26-28, 2010) and if 2 out of 3 samples are OK, the beaches can reopen.  (earliest possible date for reopening would be Thursday July 29, 2010) 
Lifeguards will not be scheduled until we receive notification, that the beaches are swimmable. 

Elliot Lake features two public beaches:

The City of Elliot Lake boasts two beaches along the shores of Elliot Lake. Both Spruce Beach and Spine Beach offer opportunities for families to come and play in the sparkling, clear waters of Elliot Lake. The sandy beaches are perfect to build sand castles, or to work on a Summer tan while reading a good novel. Both beaches make a perfect backdrop for an afternoon picnic, or evening barbeque as the sun goes down behind the breathtaking hills that surround Elliot Lake. Both beaches have playground facilities for children, as well as washroom and changeroom facilities.

Weekdays: 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Weekends & Holidays: 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Beginning August 3, 2009 Waterfronts Close @ 8:00 p.m.
All Staff are fully trained and posses valid First Aid, CPR, AED, & NLS Waterfront
