| Fire Services The City of Elliot Lake Fire Service provides a 24-hour service made up of a Fire Chief, Emergency Management Coordinator, who is also Admin. Assistant to the Chief, and a composite force of 34 firefighters; 9 fulltime firefighters and 25 volunteer firefighters. For persons interested in joining the department as a part-time firefighter, also known as a volunteer, be advised that the volunteer firefighters have no set scheduled hours of work and are only called upon when the call-out warrants. There are however, regularly scheduled training sessions held every Wednesday evening. Completed applications are to be forwarded to the City's Human Resources Department. At present there are no full-time positions available, however the volunteer firefighter compliment does at times have openings. Applications are kept on file for six months. Click here for a firefighter application. The service has two fire pumpers and one 75-foot aerial ladder fire truck. In addition, their service includes 4x4 trucks used for bush fires, a 16-foot boat and ATV for use in search and rescue. Fire Permits are required for all open air burning in the City between April 1st and October 31st. To obtain a fire permit click here. The permit must be signed by the Fire Department to be valid.
