Health Services
The people of Elliot Lake, surrounding communities and visitors to the area, have been served by St. Joseph's General Hospital Elliot Lake since 1958. The Hospital owns and operates a fifty-seven bed Community Hospital, a sixty-four bed Long Term Care Facility and a fifty-two bed Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facility that serves clients from all parts of Canada.
The Hospital's inpatient nursing units provide Medical, Surgical, Obstetrics, Intensive Care and Chronic Care services and the Operating Room staff provide Emergency and Elective Surgery services. The Emergency Department is open twenty-four hours a day. A wide range of Diagnostic and Therapeutic services are also provided by the Hospital.

St. Joseph's has an active medical staff of fifteen local physicians and twenty-five visiting specialists to meet the needs of the people of the area.

St. Joseph's Manor Long Term Care Facility admitted its first resident on November 11, 2002. The modern nursing home consists of two thirty-two bed residential home areas. Each floor consists of one private short stay respite care room and thirty-one long stay private and semi-private rooms. The Manor is licensed and regulated as a Nursing Home by the Ontario Government.

The Oaks Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre consists of a twelve bed Withdrawal Management service and a forty bed, twenty-one day Active Inpatient Treatment program, all under one roof. The Centre's clients' medical needs are provided by a physician who specializes in the care of people suffering the affects of alcohol and drug addiction.

The community of Elliot Lake is also equipped to provide a continuum of health care via Hillside Park, a retirement home and Huron Lodge, an assisted living residence. For those requiring care and assistance in their own residence, home care services of all types are readily available through a variety of private and public agencies.

The community is also served by a host of medical professionals and services including 3 medical clinics, 2 optometrists, 1 optician, 7 dentists, 2 denturists, 2 massage therapists, 2 chiropractic clinics and 1 acupuncturist.
Specialized Health Care
Algoma Child & Youth Services
Provides family, individual and group counselling for children of the Algoma District up to the ages of 18.

Algoma Community Care Access Centre
In Algoma, people of all ages, in homes, schools, long-term care facilities and places of work may access health, support and information services from the Algoma Community Access Centre. These services are based on client needs and are provided on a visitation basis.

Canadian Red Cross Homemaker Service
Provides non-medical personal support assistance and household management in the home for individuals and/or families.

East Algoma Mental Health Clinic
Provides a variety of counselling and support services to individuals, couples, families and groups.

Community Living Algoma
Offers support and services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the district of Algoma.

Elliot Lake Family Life Centre
Provides individual, couple and family counselling in marital/couple relationships; family relationships; anxiety/stress; addiction, family violence and sexual assault.

Huron Lodge Community Service Board Inc.
Provides extended residential care for seniors as well as community service programs for seniors in their homes.

Oaks Treatment Centre
Houses both the Detoxification Services and the Camilus Centre - a 40 bed residential treatment program for individuals addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Elliot Lake Palliative Care
mission of the Elliot Lake Palliative Care Program is to assist clients by providing a trained, caring, friendly volunteer to support them and their family during the palliative stage of a terminal illness.”

East Algoma Diabetes Education and Care Program
Staff consists of a Registered Nurse certified in Diabetes Education and a Registered Dietitian. Clients are provided education on how to self-manage their disease through indivial, group sessions or a combination of both as well as providing individualized care.
