Internet Policy
1. Computer time for Internet searches will be limited to one hour per day per user; however, if there are no users waiting, a user may pay for a second hour or more.

2. The user fee is $1.00 per hour or $5.00 per month. Monthly memberships run from the first to the end of the month. The fee is paid prior to the start of the session.

3. Reservations are taken at the main desk of the library and may also be made by telephone. Users are to start at the booked time unless they have notified the Library staff that they will be late for their appointment. If no notice has been given, the Library staff will hold the computer for 10 minutes, then pass it on to the next user.

4. Internet users from Elliot Lake cannot have overdue library materials or unpaid fines.

5. Parents of minors (under 12 years of age) must assume responsibility for their children’s use by either accompanying them at the workstations or signing a consent form. The Library provides unfiltered Internet workstations.

6. The list of “favourites” can not be changed (i.e. added to or deleted from)

7. The screen saver cannot be changed.

8. Users cannot alter any part of the operating system or programs on the computer.

9. Only 2 people at a time are allowed at any one workstation (unless training is being conducted).

10. Please do not read screens over other patrons’ shoulders. The workstations have been arranged in a format to ensure privacy.

Wireless Access Policy
1. Wireless access is available virtually anywhere in the Library, whenever the Library is open.  Since you are using your own equipment, there are no time limits on usage.

2. The Library’s wireless network is not secure, and the Library cannot guarantee the safety of your traffic across its wireless network.

3. The Library is responsible only for providing a working wireless connection.  The Library is not able to provide technical assistance to you, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to make a wireless connection.  If you need assistance, contact the manufacturer of your laptop or software.

4. The Library will provide you with a key code in order to access the wireless network.  The key code is changed daily, please ask the staff at the desk for the key code.

5. The user fee is $1.00 per day.  The fee is paid prior to the start of the session at which time the key code will be provided to the user.

6. Printing is not available from the Wireless network.  If the user wishes to print a document they will be required to save the document to a floppy disk or a CD.  The staff at the desk can then print the document at a cost of $0.25 cents per page.

Downloading:
Disks at $1.00 and CD-R’s at $2.00 each can be purchased at the desk. Disks brought into the Library must be scanned for viruses prior to use.

Printing:
25 cents per page

The use of these public sites is considered a privilege which can be withdrawn by the Elliot Lake Public Library staff if behaviour is considered inappropriate; users are in the operating system; or federal or provincial laws are being contravened.
