How does your assessed value work for you?
Accurate property assessment is the basis for fair property taxation and assures everyone in your community pays their fair share of property taxes. The 2003 assessment is based on property values as of June 30, 2003 and will be used by municipalities and the Province to determine 2004 municipal and education taxes.

It is important to know that the total amount of taxes collected by your municipality depends on the municipality's revenue needs, not on the value of the property assessments within a municipality.

The City of Elliot Lake determines and applies tax rates to the assessment of each property, according to its tax class. There are seven main tax classes: residential, multi-residential, commercial, industrial, pipe-line, farm and managed forests. Each property tax class may have its own tax rate.

The Province sets the education tax rates for all properties.

Property assessments are done by MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corp). Click here or on the MPAC logo to learn more.
