Elliot Lake Waterfront Development
The boundaries of the City of Elliot Lake cover 800 square miles and include over 100 spring fed lakes, surrounded by wilderness Crown land. Historically, cottage development was not allowed.
In the last several years, the province, in cooperation with the City of Elliot Lake, adopted a new philosophy to share our environment with others.
In June of 2001, a private member's bill known as the City of Elliot Lake Act received Royal Assent. This special legislation enabled the City of Elliot Lake to acquire, market and sell Crown land for waterfront development. The 7-member Elliot Lake Residential Development Commission was established to carry out the necessary work to bring the lots to market.
The vision of the Commission and the City is to make a significant contribution to the economic diversification, of the City of Elliot Lake, by providing the opportunity for families of all ages to enjoy residential, recreational living (cottage life).
